Where we work

Although MAA currently dispenses its main operations in northern Tanzania drylands of Arusha and Manyara regions, our plans are to expand in the future to cover Siha and Same districts in Kilimanjaro region, two districts in Tanga region, and three East-Coast districts in Dar es Salaam and Coast regions where marginalized pastoralists and agro-pastoralists live. We will continue to assess the relevance of our entry points in this geographical area and to learn more about the challenges, possible solutions and potential partners. Special attention will continue to be paid to the presence of effective local organizations to partner with, the potential for co-funding and the ability to leverage more financing for scaling-up of support. With partners, MAA will continue to work on the particular challenges women, youth and marginalized indigenous peoples (IPs) face and build on their unique assets and perspectives. As it were, all our target areas have in common the following important features.

  1. The major livelihoods activities are pastoralism and agro-pastoralism.
  2. They are rich in biodiversity, particularly wildlife and other natural resources.
  3. They form interdependent systems of nature between humans, wildlife and environment.

MAA believes in engaging all partners in enabling local communities to benefit from the available resources.
